Some of the best views of the Scarborough surrounding areas are from Oliver's Mount. It is reputed that Oliver Cromwell positioned his armed forces on Oliver's Mount during his siege of Scarborough Castle in 1645, and some suggest that is where it derives its name.
See Oliver's Mount History Page for a more controverial consideration for the naming of Oliver's Mount:

View from Oliver's Mount

The views from Oliver's Mount of Scarborough Castle, the beaches, the North Yorkshire Moors, and town area are enjoyed by many visitors.

Oliver's Mount

The mount is over 500 feet high and is crowned by a Obelisk War Memorial. The Memorial commemorates those, from Scarborough, that gave their lives during the Great War (World War 1).

Scarborough Mere

The Mere, at the base of Oliver's Mount, once hosted various types of water amusements such as canoeing, a pirate ship and various water sports. These days it is primarily used for fresh water fishing, and people enjoying picnics and walks.
