The South Bay stretches from the harbour at the base of the castle and "old town" around to the South Cliff area and beyond. The beach is very popular during the summer. Shops, cafes and arcade centres follow the shoreline around the bay and are generally open year round.
The South bay beach is popular for swimming and sun-bathing during the summer months. Deck-chairs are readily available from a number of strategically located stalls. The beach offers plenty of entertainment for children such as donkey rides, bouncing castles and a whole host of arcade game centres. "Ice Cream" and "Fish and Chips" shops are easy to come across along with a number of seafood stalls.
A walk along the beach from the harbour around to the Spa and South Cliff area can be very pleasant especially at low tide. A number of sheltered spots surrounded by rocks with rock-pools become apparent as you approach the Spa area.
