George V saw a lot of changes during his reign: A rudimentary welfare state came into existence; a Major World War; the global depression of the 1920's early 1930s; Major changes in the British Empire - Throughout this period he played a moderating role. He demonstrated genuine statemanlike dignity. His efforts may well have overted a revolution in England especially after the Great War. He made the monarchy genuinely popular with the nation and also to a large extend with the commonwealth.
